The History of The Northern Fairfield County

Association of REALTORS® 1926 – TODAY
 

The National Association of REALTORS® began as the National Association of Real Estate Exchanges (NAREE) on May 12, 1908, in Chicago. At its founding, there were 120 members, 19 Boards, and one state association.
 

  • On January 19, 1926: The NAREE Board of Directors elected The Danbury Real Estate Board to membership. The association had 16 members. 
     
  • May 30, 1935: NAREE Board of Directors drops The Danbury Real Estate Board from membership for non-payment of dues. 
     
  • May 13, 1937: NAREE elects The Danbury Real Estate Board to membership. 
     
  • January 27, 1945: NAREE Board of Directors approves the jurisdiction for The Danbury Real Estate Board:  Danbury, New Fairfield, Brookfield, Newtown, Bethel, Redding, and Ridgefield. 
     
  • May 22, 1948: NAREE Board of Directors approves a change in the jurisdiction for The Danbury Real Estate Board, to include the town of Sherman.  New Jurisdiction:  Danbury, New Fairfield, Brookfield, Newtown, Bethel, Redding, Ridgefield, and Sherman i.e., Northern Fairfield County. 
     
  • January 15, 1957: NAREE Board of Directors approves a name change from The Danbury Real Estate Board to The Danbury Board of REALTORS®. 
     
  • November 11, 1958: NAREE Board of Directors approves a name change from The Danbury Board of REALTORS® to The Greater Danbury Board of REALTORS®. 
     
  • 1959: NAREE Board of Directors approves a change in jurisdiction for The Greater Danbury Board of REALTORS®. Town of Newtown released, to the newly formed Newtown Board  
     
  • May 10, 1960: NAREE Board of Directors approves a change in the jurisdiction for The Greater Danbury Board of REALTORS®. Town of Sherman released to The New Milford Board
     
  • January 24, 1961: NAREE Board of Directors approves a change in jurisdiction for The Greater Danbury Board of REALTORS®. Town of Ridgefield was released, to the newly formed Ridgefield Board  
     
  • 1971: The NAREE Board of Directors and Delegate Body vote to change their name to The National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) 
     
  • January 8, 1996: NAR Board of Directors approves a name change from The Greater Danbury Board of REALTORS® to The Northern Fairfield County Association of REALTORS®.  
     
  • 2020: Ridgefield Board of REALTORS® merges with The Northern Fairfield County Association of REALTORS®.
