Become A Broker
Overview:
To obtain a real estate broker’s license in Connecticut, you must be at least 18 years old, have worked actively as a licensed real estate salesperson for at least three years, complete 120 hours of required pre-licensing education, and pass the state broker examination through the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection.
Broker License Prerequisites
Basic eligibility:
Be at least 18 years of age.
- Actively engaged as a real estate salesperson in CT for at least 3 years.
- 60-hour classroom course in Real Estate Principles and Practices.
- 15-hour classroom course in Real Estate Brokerage Principles and Practices.
- 15-hour classroom course in Legal Compliance.
- Two (2) 15-hour pre-license elective courses OR
○ One (1) 30-hr pre-license course OR
○ 20 real estate transactions in the previous 5 years. A transaction is defined as a legal transfer of real estate property or execution of a lease agreement.
- Actively engaged as a licensed real estate salesperson under the supervision of a licensed real estate broker in this state for at least 1,500 hrs., including no less than 4 real estate transactions during the three (3) years immediately preceding the date of application.
