ETHICS & ARBITRATION

The Preamble to the REALTOR® Code of Ethics serves as the foundation for the values REALTORS® uphold, such as honesty, integrity, fairness, and ethical business conduct. It also references the enduring Golden Rule near its conclusion. However, because it is aspirational, the Preamble cannot be used as grounds for disciplinary action against a REALTOR®.

Disciplinary action for REALTOR® members is based solely on the Articles of the Code.

Ethics Complaints and Request for Arbitration

Arbitration of business disputes among REALTORS® constitutes a significant service offered by the REALTOR® organization. It ensures that conflicts are addressed by peers possessing comprehensive knowledge of the real estate industry, which typically surpasses that of other adjudicators.

The Code of Ethics requires that REALTORS® file a request for arbitration before they litigate. Call 860-566-8333 or email prostandards@ctrealtors.com to file an ethics complaint or request arbitration.
