Brookfield: A Modern Town with Historic Roots
Settled as an agricultural community in 1700, Brookfield kept its original character until well into the 20th century.

It was not until 1940 that commerce and industry began to surpass agriculture in the local economy. The change, once it came, was rapid. It brought about an influx of new residents – and in 1980, making Brookfield the fastest-growing town in Connecticut. Today there is explosive commercial development along Route 7.

Well-endowed with natural resources, Brookfield is bordered on two sides by lakes - Candlewood on the west, and Lillinonah on the east. In addition to these recreational assets, the town enjoys cultural resources centering on theater and crafts.
