Twelve miles north of Danbury in Litchfield County, Bridgewater is set in one of the most rural parts of Connecticut. Some 1,600 residents are spread across the town's 16.3 square miles, and there are more farms than businesses.
A resort as well as farming community, Bridgewater is marked by the rolling meadows and hills typical of the New England landscape. There are numerous horse trails, since many residents keep horses. The large stock of gracious Victorian homes adds to the scenery and the waters help explain the towns continuing lure for summer visitors.
With its pleasant, relaxed atmosphere, Bridgewater is a treasured hideaway for year-round and summer residents alike. But for all its rural charm, the town is just minutes away from Interstate 84 and U.S. Route 7, making it a comfortable commute to Danbury, Hartford, and lower Fairfield County.
